As part of the Fourth International Watercolor Triennial “The Spirit of Watercolor” – Varna
“The Sea and Us” is the first joint exhibition of life and art partners Selma and Krasi Todorov.
The event is part of the accompanying program of the Fourth International Watercolor Triennial “The Spirit of Watercolor” in Varna and showcases the latest artistic explorations of Selma and Krasi in watercolor. Their new works are presented alongside a selection of portraits that have earned recognition and awards in prestigious international watercolor forums over the past few years.
Selma Todorova’s focus in this exhibition is the sea – its elemental force, ever-shifting forms, and colors. In her work, the sea becomes a mirror to the human experience – whether as participant in its vastness or as contemplative observer. Most of the pieces in this series are being exhibited for the first time.
Selma’s portraits, with their striking expressiveness, captivate with a rare emotional depth and convey a powerful spiritual message.
Krasi Todorov’s works, inspired by the Atlantic Ocean, are also being shown to the public for the first time. In contrast to the delicacy in Selma’s approach, his paintings carry a sense of force and determination – evident in both the choice of subject matter and the bold contrasts and color dynamics. His portraits are particularly impactful – with confident line work and a clear message of strength, these pieces have traveled across many countries.
Presented together, the works of Selma and Krasi share only their professionalism and the overarching theme – “The Sea and Us.”
They are like yin and yang – two elements, two forces that cannot exist without one another. Not just differences, but complementary powers that together create a complete and unified whole, charged with deeper meaning and creative energy. The softness and tenderness of the woman, the strength and resolve of the man.
Such is this exhibition – a representation not only of artistic synchrony, but of harmony through contrast.
The exhibition opens on July 2, 2025, at 6:00 PM at Gallery 33, Varna, and will run until August 1, 2025.
